How Long Does OEM Cookware Production Take? Timelines Explained

The most common OEM frustration is timeline surprise. Here is a realistic schedule for custom cookware - and where the time actually goes.

Phase 1 - Quotation & specs (1-2 weeks)

Exchanging drawings, confirming materials and finishes, agreeing MOQ and price. Speed this up by arriving with complete specs - incomplete briefs cause most delays.

Phase 2 - Sampling (2-4 weeks)

The factory builds a physical sample to your spec. Budget for 1-2 revision rounds; each round adds a week. Never skip this phase.

Phase 3 - Tooling, if needed (2-6 weeks)

Fully custom shapes need new dies. Standard shapes skip this entirely - a strong reason to start with catalogue shapes.

Phase 4 - Bulk production (4-8 weeks)

Pressing, polishing, handle fitting, engraving, packing. Larger orders and custom finishes sit at the longer end.

Phase 5 - Shipping (2-6 weeks)

Sea freight to most destinations; air freight for urgent launches at much higher cost.

4 ways to shorten the timeline

  1. Arrive with final specs - no "we’ll decide the handle later"
  2. Approve samples fast (48-hour internal review SLA)
  3. Use standard shapes for launch, custom for v2
  4. Book production slots early in peak season (pre-Diwali, pre-Christmas)

Frequently asked questions

What is the total realistic timeline?

For standard-shape OEM: roughly 10-16 weeks from first message to goods at your port. Fully custom: 16-24 weeks.

Can production be rushed?

Sometimes, for a premium and with simpler specs. But rushing QC is how defects ship - protect the inspection phase.
