Container Loading for Cookware: Stuffing Plans That Save Money
A well-stuffed container ships 15-20% more product for the same freight. Here is the method.
The principles
- Carton standardisation: 2-3 carton sizes max - mixed sizes waste space
- Nesting: vessels nest inside each other (with interleaving) - the #1 CBM saver
- Weight distribution: heavy cartons low and centred; never exceed axle/container limits
- Fill the door: last 2 metres are where amateurs lose 10%
The stuffing plan
Get a loading diagram from the factory before stuffing day: cartons per layer, layers per pallet, pallets per container. Supervise loading (or require photo proof) - a bad stuff = damage + wasted freight.
LCL vs FCL reminder
Above ~15 CBM, FCL wins. And a 40ft HC (76 CBM) is often only 30-40% more than a 20ft (33 CBM) - the cheapest CBM afloat.
Frequently asked questions
How much cookware fits in a 20ft container?
Roughly 28-33 CBM of cartons - with nesting and standard cartons, several thousand pieces depending on size.
