Tri-Ply Circles

Elongation, Tensile & Yield: Mechanical Specs for Deep Drawing

Your press shop cares about three numbers more than any other. Here is what they mean for deep drawing tri-ply.

Elongation (%)

How far the metal stretches before breaking. 40%+ is the comfort zone for deep-drawn cookware. Below ~35%, expect cracking on deep vessels like kadhai.

Tensile strength (MPa)

Maximum stress before failure. Typical tri-ply: 345-370 MPa. Too high = hard to draw; too low = weak vessel.

Yield strength (MPa)

Where permanent deformation starts. Typical: 246-277 MPa. The gap between yield and tensile is your forming window.

Using the numbers

Share MTCs with your tooling engineer before cutting dies. A new circle lot with different properties may need press parameter tweaks - 10 minutes of adjustment beats a day of cracked vessels.

Frequently asked questions

What elongation is needed for deep drawing?
