How to Audit a Cookware Factory (Buyer’s Walkthrough)
A 3-hour walkthrough reveals what 3 months of emails can’t. Here is the route.
The walkthrough route
- Incoming material: circle storage - interleaved? organised? MTCs on file?
- Pressing: die condition, operator skill, in-process checks
- Polishing: dust extraction, finish consistency
- Assembly: handle fitting jigs, torque control
- QC station: dedicated area? gauges calibrated? records kept?
- Packing: carton strength, drop-test evidence
- Finished goods: FIFO, labelling, dispatch records
Beyond the floor
- Capacity: current utilisation - a 98%-full factory can’t prioritise you
- Subcontractors: which processes leave the building?
- Labour: retention, training, working conditions (your brand’s reputation)
- Documentation: ask to see a recent QC report and a corrective-action record
