OEM Manufacturing
How to Choose an OEM Cookware Manufacturer: 10-Point Checklist
The factory you choose determines your product quality, your margins and your reputation. This 10-point checklist is what experienced sourcing managers actually verify before placing an OEM cookware order.
The 10-point checklist
- Real manufacturer, not a trader: ask for factory photos, video call the floor, check business registration.
- Product-specific experience: a triply specialist beats a generalist for triply.
- In-house processes: pressing, polishing, handle fitting under one roof = fewer failure points.
- Documented QC: ask what is checked, how often, and whether you get reports with photos.
- Sampling discipline: a serious factory insists on physical sample approval before bulk.
- Export experience: your region’s documentation, packing and compliance.
- Communication speed: slow replies during quoting = slow replies when problems arise.
- References: existing OEM clients (even anonymised) and how long they’ve stayed.
- Financial stability: years in operation, facility ownership vs rented shed.
- Problem history: ask how they handled their last quality complaint - the answer tells you everything.
Red flags that should stop you
- No physical sample offered - "photos are enough"
- Unwilling to share factory location or video call
- Prices far below every other quote (corners will be cut somewhere)
- No written QC process
- 100% advance payment demanded with no milestones
The sample test
Before any bulk order, get a paid sample built to your exact spec. Check weight, wall gauge, finish, lid fit, handle strength and induction performance. A factory’s sample is its audition - judge it ruthlessly.
Frequently asked questions
Should I visit the factory before ordering?
If the order is large, yes - or send a third-party inspector. At minimum, do a live video walkthrough of the production floor.
How many factories should I shortlist?
Three. Quote all three, sample from the best two, and place bulk with the winner.
