Stock sizes
Suppliers stock common diameters (often 5-10 mm increments across 200-550 mm). Stock = immediate dispatch, best ₹/kg, no cutting charge.
Custom sizes
Anything off-stock: cutting premium (5-15%), 2-4 week lead time, often higher MOQ. Worth it only when the vessel design genuinely needs it.
The standardisation strategy
- List every vessel’s ideal blank diameter
- Round each to the nearest stock size (up, never down)
- Confirm draw feasibility with tooling
- Lock a standard diameter list for all RFQs
