Tri-Ply Circle Weight Formula: Calculate Any Size in Seconds

Circles are bought by weight but used by piece. This formula bridges the two - so you order exactly what you need.

The formula

Weight (kg) = π × (D/2)² × t × ρ ÷ 1,000,000

  • D = diameter in mm, t = thickness in mm
  • ρ (density) ≈ 7,700 kg/m³ for tri-ply (between steel 7,900 and aluminium 2,700, weighted by layer split)

Example: 400 mm × 2.0 mm → ≈ 1.94 kg per circle.

Why it matters

  • Quoting: convert your piece requirement to kg for RFQs
  • Verification: weigh incoming lots - short weight means thin gauge or short count
  • Costing: per-piece cost = (₹/kg × weight) + pressing cost

Frequently asked questions

What is the density of tri-ply?

Approximately 7,700 kg/m³ - a weighted average of the steel and aluminium layers.

How do I convert kg to pieces?

Pieces = total kg ÷ weight per circle. Calculate per-circle weight with the formula above.
