Tri-Ply Circles
Tri-Ply Circle Thickness Guide: How to Choose the Right Gauge
Thickness is the single biggest cost driver in tri-ply circles - and the biggest determinant of cooking performance. Choose it deliberately.
Typical thickness range
Tri-ply circles are commonly supplied from 0.8 mm to 3.0 mm total thickness. Below 0.8 mm the vessel feels flimsy; above 3.0 mm you are in commercial/heavy-duty territory with slow heat response.
What suits what
- 0.8-1.2 mm: lightweight vessels, budget lines - heats fast, dents easier
- 1.5-2.0 mm: the sweet spot for most triply cookware - balanced heat, good feel
- 2.5-3.0 mm: premium/heavy-duty - superior heat retention, slower to heat, higher cost
Thickness vs price
Circles are priced per kg, so thicker = heavier = more expensive per piece - roughly linear. But thicker also means fewer heat complaints and returns. The cheapest circle is rarely the cheapest cookware.
Specify it right
State total thickness ± tolerance (e.g. 2.0 mm ± 0.05) and, for critical work, per-layer split. Measure incoming circles with a micrometer on an AQL sample - trust, then verify.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best thickness for triply kadhai?
1.5-2.5 mm total is the popular range - even heating without excessive weight. Premium lines go to 3.0 mm.
Does thicker always mean better?
No - beyond ~3 mm heat response slows noticeably. Match thickness to the vessel’s job.
