A sample is a promise. These seven tests verify whether the supplier can keep it.
The 7 tests
- Visual: surface finish, stains, scratches under good light
- Magnet: firm grip across the full outer face
- Tap test: solid thunk everywhere - no hollow spots
- Micrometer: thickness at 5+ points; check tolerance
- Edge: deburred, no sharp burrs
- Weight: matches the formula for the stated gauge
- Trial press: press 3-5 samples into a vessel - the ultimate test
Sample vs bulk warning
Samples are often golden - made with extra care. Protect yourself: state in writing that bulk must match approved sample, and trial-press from the first bulk lot before releasing it to production.
Frequently asked questions
How many circle samples should I test?
At least 5-10 per spec, including a trial press of 3-5. One perfect sample proves nothing.
