Private Label
How to Start a Private Label Cookware Brand in 7 Steps
A practical, no-fluff roadmap from zero to your first container of branded cookware.
Step 1 - Pick your niche
"Cookware" is not a niche. Triply for Indian cooking, premium steel for Europe, chef-grade for restaurants - specificity decides your product, price and channel. Study 3-star reviews of incumbents: complaints are your brief.
Step 2 - Shortlist manufacturers
Three factories minimum. Prioritise product specialists (a triply factory for triply) over generalists, and verify they are manufacturers, not traders.
Step 3 - Sample ruthlessly
Order paid samples from two finalists. Cook in them. Weigh them. Abuse them. The sample is the product your customers will judge.
Step 4 - Lock branding
Logo engraving position, box design, barcodes, inserts. Get digital proofs, then a pre-production sample in final packaging.
Step 5 - Contract the terms
Specs, AQL quality standard, payment milestones (never 100% upfront), delivery date, remedies for defects - in writing.
Step 6 - Produce & inspect
Mid-production photo reports plus a pre-shipment inspection (third-party for large orders).
Step 7 - Launch & reorder early
Listings and retail go live as goods ship. Reorder at 50% stock - 60+ day lead times punish late reorders.
Frequently asked questions
How much capital do I need?
A lean launch runs low-five-figures USD for 2-3 SKUs including freight. Custom tooling and big ranges cost more.
Do I need a registered company first?
Yes - factories, freight forwarders and marketplaces all require a business entity and tax registration.
