Circle Purchase Contracts: 10 Terms Every PO Must Include
Circles are raw material, but the same discipline as finished-goods POs applies. Ten terms, zero disputes.
The 10 terms
- Full spec: grades per layer, thickness ± tolerance, diameter ± tolerance, finish per side
- Quantity: kg and pieces (both - they must reconcile)
- Price basis: ₹/kg, fixed or formula-linked to steel index
- MTC: per lot, heat-number traceable
- Inspection: your AQL plan + right to reject
- Packing: interleaved, palletised, ISPM-15, seaworthy
- Delivery: date + Incoterm
- Payment: milestones (e.g. 30/70)
- Remedies: replacement timeline for rejected lots, who pays freight
- Sample binding: bulk must match approved sample
Frequently asked questions
Should circle prices be fixed or indexed?
For long contracts, index-linking to steel prices is fairer to both sides; for spot buys, fixed is fine.
